Almost any place you will want to visit in Chania itself is best reached by foot. There are public buses available. If you want to explore the countryside or more remote points in western Crete, we recommend renting a car to make the best use of your time
Bus: There are almost hourly buses from early in the morning until about 10:30pm (depending on the season), connecting Chania to Rethymnon and Heraklion. There are less frequent (and often inconvenient) buses between destinations in western Crete. The main bus station (to points all over Crete) is at 25 Kidonias (&28210/93-306)
Car: An excellent way of getting around during Crete holidays, car hire gives you complete flexibility as well as the ability to see more of the island.
